Forest County Potawatomi Community

IT & Communications Center Feasibility Study

The Need

There is a growing concern about the resiliency of the Forest County Potawatomi Community (FCPC). COVID-19 exposed the tribe to potential financial threats with the closing of the casinos. A strong desire to create opportunities for the current workforce and prepare the next generation with new skills propelled FCPC apply for a grant to investigate the feasibility of an IT & Communications Center. Ideally, it would include a media studio, commercial arts studio, training and conference rooms, classrooms, and a potential business development center or incubator.  The new building would be located near the new $60M Community Center in an effort to retain graduates of the FILM program.

Highlights

To create employment opportunities that will attract talent back to the FCPC, RR made recommendations regarding program development, outreach and marketing, and site location. Financial considerations included: land, equipment, operational expenses, maintenance, revenue opportunities and existing infrastructure.

Impact

The study recommended varying sizes and shapes of centers which could be hosted on the recommended site.

Tribal leadership is evaluating the study results and has not decided on whether or when they will undertake development.
